Six offensive plays- four touchdowns?! In the first quarter?! Yep… that pretty much sums up Westfield’s domination of Trinity Christian-Sharpsburg on Friday night. Westfield scored at will in the first half racking up 42 points and only allowing a total of 17 first half yards in route to a 42-14 victory.
Westfield started on defense for the first time this season, and quickly showed Trinity that it was going to be a long night ahead. After a bad snap and some great tackling, Trinity was forced to punt on their first possession. Westfield took over close to midfield, and only took two plays for Tanner Westbrook to take a handoff from Ryan Fitzpatrick for a touchdown. Things continued to go downhill for Trinity as Westfield forced two turnovers and a punt on the next three possessions, while taking only 4 plays on offense to score 21 more points and lead 28-0 after the first quarter.
The Hornets continued their domination in the second quarter as Coach Jones started bringing in some of the reserves. Behind Tanner Westbrook, Logan Fink, and Aidan Murphy’s defensive touchdown, the Hornets were still able to score 14 points. The lead at the half stood at 42-0, and I think everyone involved would have been just fine if the game ended right there. Unfortunately that couldn’t be done however, and a second half was played.
Westfield showed their class as champions in the second half, and did all they could to run the time off the clock as quickly as possible. Trinity was able to punch in a couple of touchdowns late to salvage 14 points, but the Hornets pulled out the 42-14 victory.
The Hornets are now 3-0 as they travel down to Albany this Friday to take on the Deerfield-Windsor Knights in what should be a great game. As all Westfield fans know, the Knights will present a big challenge. Gang Green will need as many fans as possible to travel to Albany to support the Hornets because revenge will be on the mind of the Knights after last year’s loss.
