My gut feeling is that the real Atlanta Braves is the team you are seeing since the change in the batting order over the last two and half weeks. The difference between this team and the team we saw earlier in the year is a marketable improvement in manufacturing runs. No, they haven't been stealing bases or bunting folks over, but they have been getting clutch base hits at the right time. They still hit home runs, but they are able to deliver a solid single at the right time now. The strikeouts have gone down over the past few months as well. If only we could get rid of Dan Uggla and BJ Upton, who knows what the strikeout numbers might look like. I'll save that argument for another day though.
So, if this is indeed the true Atlanta Braves as I believe it is, I then begin to wonder if they have what it takes to win the World Series. Let's first look at their possible opponents in the playoffs: the Dodgers, the Pirates, the Cardinals, and the Reds. My guess is the Cardinals will rebound from their mini-slump they are in right now and overtake the Pirates. The Dodgers are going to run away in the West just as the Braves are in the East. I still think the Braves will end up with the best record in the NL, and if so, that would mean a potential first round matchup with the winner of the Pirates/Reds one game playoff. Personally, I'd rather face the Pirates. The Reds play in a little league field, and seem to always give the Braves fits. So, Go Bucs in that "play-in game"!
Having the best record in the NL not only would allow the Braves to have home field advantage against the Reds or Pirates, but it would also allow for the two teams that scare me the most, the Dodgers and Cardinals, to beat up on one another. Let's face it, the Cardinals are like the Steelers in the NFL during playoff time. They just know how to win. Plus, I wouldn't want to face the Dodgers in a short series with Clayton Kershaw. Not to mention, I don't think I could stomach watching Yasiel Puig do his thing.
So... if this all sets up as I think it will, I see the Braves beating the Pirates in four games in the Division Series. After that, we move on to beat the Dodgers in six games to move on to the World Series. In the World Series, the Braves beat the Detroit Tigers in six games to win their first World Championship in 18 years!!!
Or... Braves lose 3-0 the Pirates in the Division Series. Ehh,.. who knows, but I'll be watching either way and that I do know for sure.
